FREE Mammogram Program

In 2012, Sentara Princess Anne Hospital launched an important initiative designed to help uninsured and underinsured men and women in the Virginia Beach community gain access to potentially lifesaving breast health screenings at no cost to the patient. What began as a small community outreach effort has since grown into the highly impactful SPAH Auxiliary Free Mammogram Program (FMP), a program dedicated to improving access to preventative healthcare and supporting early detection.

Since its inception, the Free Mammogram Program has expanded significantly, growing from only a handful of screenings during its first year to providing well over 100 mammograms annually within just a few years. Through partnerships with healthcare providers and the ongoing support of the community, the program has helped countless individuals receive critical screening services they may not otherwise have been able to afford.

The Free Mammogram Program is funded entirely through the annual Sentara Princess Anne Hospital Auxiliary Golf Tournament, held each October. This signature fundraising event serves as the sole source of revenue sustaining the program and has become an important community tradition focused on supporting women's health and access to care.

Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, donors, golfers, volunteers, and community supporters, the Auxiliary is able to continue providing this vital service to individuals throughout the Hampton Roads region. Their support plays a direct role in helping patients access early detection services, promoting healthier outcomes, and making a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve.
